KIDS and YOUTH MATERIALS
Dear GCBC Parents:
Over the next few weeks, Padraig will be taking us through the book of Jonah. This is a wonderful book to help teach our children about God’s mercy and compassion to those who turn their hearts to Him. And no matter how far away we are from God, we are never so far that the Lord would abandon us. He may give us consequences, but He will be waiting for us to return to Him because He loves us. What a comfort!
I pray the following resources will be helpful to you all as you continue to train your children in following Jesus.
God Bless,
Mandy

Digging Deeper Verses (NLT) – Draw or write out your thoughts about these verses
How did God speak long ago? Who did God speak through after that? Where do we find these teachings today?
Hebrews 1:1-2 – “Long ago God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets. And now in these final days, he has spoken to us through his Son. God promised everything to the Son as an inheritance, and through the Son he created the universe.”
God spoke to Jonah the prophet through the Holy Spirit. How does God speak to us today?
2 Timothy 3:16-17 – “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realise what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.”
Jonah disobeyed God and ran away from what God had asked him to do. What was God’s response to Jonah’s disobedience?
Jonah 1:3-4 – “But Jonah got up and went in the opposite direction to get away from the LORD. He went down to the port of Joppa, where he found a ship leaving for Tarshish. He bought a ticket and went on board, hoping to escape from the LORD by sailing to Tarshish. But the LORD hurled a powerful wind over the sea, causing a violent storm that threatened to break the ship apart.”
We, like Jonah, disobey God. What is God’s response to our disobedience? Why does He do this?
Hebrews 12:5-6 – “And have you forgotten the encouraging words God spoke to you as his children? He said, “My child, don’t make light of the LORD’s discipline, and don’t give up when he corrects you. For the LORD disciplines those he loves, and he punishes each one he accepts as his child.””
What do these verses tell us about God’s love? What does this mean for us?
Romans 8:38-39 – “And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Pray this prayer for yourself from Ephesians 3:18-19 – “And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.”
