Hi Everyone, here is a brief outline of the sermon as well as some reflection questions for our Wednesday sermon discussion on Zoom.
Dear GCBC Parents:
We begin the Advent season this Sunday, and Adam Leadbetter will be preaching from Isaiah 2:1-5. This week’s focus is on hope and looking forward to eternity with our Heavenly Father. Just as people in the Old Testament were looking forward to the Messiah to make life better for them, we also look to the Messiah, Jesus, to save us from our sins and give us our best life in heaven forever. Take time this week to talk with your children about hope and why it is important. See the links below if you would like help in doing this.

Read the Bible verses, and then draw or write your answers to the questions that follow
- Isaiah 2:3-4 – “People from many nations will come and say, “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of Jacob’s God. There he will teach us his ways, and we will walk in his paths.” For the LORD’s teaching will go out from Zion; his word will go out from Jerusalem. The LORD will mediate between nations and will settle international disputes. They will hammer their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will no longer fight against nation, nor train for war anymore.” These verses talk about walking in God’s ways and living at peace with other people. Because of sin, we don’t see this today in our world, but we can look forward to a day when these verses will be true. Where does the Bible tell us we will see perfect life like this?
- Romans 8:23-25 –“And we believers also groan, even though we have the Holy Spirit within us as a foretaste of future glory, for we long for our bodies to be released from sin and suffering. We, too, wait with eager hope for the day when God will give us our full rights as his adopted children, including the new bodies he has promised us. We were given this hope when we were saved. (If we already have something, we don’t need to hope for it. But if we look forward to something we don’t yet have, we must wait patiently and confidently.)” What do these verses say believers long for (look forward to) and wait for? What do these verses say about hope?
- Have you ever been looking forward to something really exciting? Maybe a birthday party, a fun holiday, a competition, or a nice warm day to spend at the beach? Draw a picture or write about something you are looking forward to right now.
- At Christmas, we celebrate the birth of Jesus our Saviour. He was born over 2000 years ago, and many people were looking forward to his birth because he would make life good for them. While Jesus did this by teaching and performing miracles, he would ultimately make life good by dying on the cross for our sins. And for those who believe this, we also look forward to heaven and eternal life with God where life will not just be good but the best…forever.
- Please take a moment to thank God for his son, Jesus, and for our hope in looking forward to our best life in heaven.
