- Dear GCBC Parents:Padraig Costello will continue in our sermon series through Romans, preaching from Romans 4:13-25. In these verses, Paul continues to write about Abraham’s faith making him right with God and how that is true for all who believe in Jesus. These verses speak to Abraham believing, truly believing, that God keeps his promises. From Genesis 12 through 22 we see God’s promise to Abraham at least seven times, and Paul tells us in Romans 4:18-19 that Abraham not only believed God would keep his promise but held hope in it even when his circumstances were hopeless. Romans 4:20-21 in the NLT states, “Abraham never wavered in believing God’s promise. In fact, his faith grew stronger, and in this he brought glory to God. He was fully convinced that God is able to do whatever he promises.” Then Paul goes on to say that the Bible records Abraham’s faith (see Genesis 12-22, Romans 4, Galatians 3, Hebrews 11, and James 2) for our benefit, to help us realise that we, too, will be counted right with God by our faith.
This is a good opportunity to talk with your children about faith, belief, hope, and right standing with God. Do they believe? What do they believe? Is their faith continuing to grow stronger like Abraham’s? What can we do when we feel our faith is weak? Abraham believed God would keep his promises. What are God’s promises to us (in His Word)? Ask your children if they believe God keeps his promises. Then take time to pray as a family for your faith to be strengthened.
God Bless,
Mandy
