9 May 2021 Sermon Helps (Kids/Youth)

11am On-line Service 9 May 2021

Dear GCBC Parents:

This week we continue to explore God’s sovereignty in Romans 9:14-29. These verses can be challenging enough for adults, let alone trying to explain them to children. Thankfully, the resource I shared last week (The Ology by Marty Machowski) has another great chapter teaching children on these topics. You’ll find photos of the chapter linked at the bottom.

In God’s sovereignty, He knows who will be saved for eternity and who will not be saved. Not only that, these verses talk about how God chooses some and not others. It leads us to ask the question, “Why doesn’t God just save everyone?” (Romans 9:19). At this past Wednesday’s Bible study, Pastor Jason explained that in our sinful state, we are all happily going along in our sin completely disregarding God. He said the correct question we should ask is, “Why does God save anyone?” God is just and right to show His anger and wrath towards all of us, but in His mercy He chooses to save some (Romans 9:22-23).

Today would be a great time to talk with our children about our sinful nature and the consequences of our sin (death). If it weren’t for the patience, compassion, mercy, and love of our heavenly Father, we would continue to live for our selfish purposes, serving only our own desires.

We will never know and fully understand our infinitely incomprehensible God, and that is okay. Actually, that is better than okay! Because as we seek to know Him throughout our time on earth, we will find more and more joy, peace, and contentment in Him. And we can never seek Him too much!

May the Lord bless your conversations as a family today and each day as you seek our amazingly sovereign God.

God Bless,

Mandy
